Welcome to the SHE Camps History newsletter!

I've always been a passionate, adventurous explorer, with big dreams and a love of learning. In December 2020, I completed a winding thirty year journey to my first degree in History. Along the way, I discovered a passion for the history of ordinary Americans, and a desire to share those stories with others.

Now, I want to do more traveling and camping while visiting historical sites all across America. I want to write the stories of the people who lived, worked, and fought in the places I visit, and help to preserve their stories for future generations to learn from and enjoy.

I especially want to focus on Women's history, starting with the women who lived and worked in the "She She She" camps in the 1930's. Haven’t heard of them? Don’t worry, until recently, neither had I! There were more than 800 CCC men’s work camps across America that are well documented and preserved. However, there were also approximately 90 women’s camps that served over 8500 women whose stories have gone almost completely unnoticed. I aim to change that by researching, visiting, and writing articles about these sites and the women who were involved with the camps.

Having recently closed the chapter on a twenty year career as a homeschool mom, I’m looking forward to this next part of my story, and can't wait to hit the road!

Maybe I'll see you out there.
